[MALACCA] Melaka (also spelt as Malacca) is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites in Malaysia.
It is a popular weekend destination for many Singaporeans due to a short 4 to 5-hour ride from Singapore immigration customs. And of course, café hopping is one of the favourite activities.
The Butter is located just one street away from Jonker Street, the most vibrant area where bustling activities and trendy cafes abound.
Founded by the owners of TéGather and CroissXCoffee, The Butter prides itself on its commitment to freshness and quality.
The café is known to combine the allure of fresh-baked croissants with the novelty of flower tea, and bake their goods daily and prepare teas to order.
Occupying a corner shophouse, although The Butter is not Halal-certified, all ingredients are sourced from Halal-certified suppliers, and no pork or lard is added to their pastries.
Upon entering, patrons are greeted by an array of delectable viennoiserie on display.
The cafe offers a range from Cromboloni (RM 14, SGD 4) to signature croissants (RM 16, SGD 4.60) and Danish (RM 10.50, SGD 3.10), providing a wide choice for diners.
The Cromboloni is a circular-shaped croissant that has become popular in recent years, filled with pastry cream and topped with chocolate ganache. It comes in two flavours, matcha and chocolate.
The Matcha Cromboloni features a flaky exterior filled with matcha cream and sprinkled with matcha powder.
While the texture is on point with a nice crisp, it lacks the fragrance and buttery aroma, and the faint matcha cream does not elevate the overall taste.
The Matcha Danish, filled with matcha and white chocolate ganache and topped generously with matcha powder, offers a distinct taste with earthy and bitter notes that balance the sweetness of the white chocolate.
Unlike most cafes that serve espresso-based drinks, The Butter adds flowers to all their beverages, specifically a wide selection of teas, all brewed fresh without preservatives or artificial colouring.
These include Hot Brew Flower Tea (RM 9.90, SGD 2.90), Cold Brew Flower Tea (RM 12.90, SGD 3.70), Sparkling Floral Fantasy (RM 12.90-13.90, SGD 3.70-4), Flower & Coffee (RM 10 – 13.90, SGD 2.90-4), and Flower & Matcha (RM 10.90-12.90, SGD 3.10-3.70).
The Matcha Rose Latte (RM 12.90, SGD 3.70) features a dash of rose syrup and rose petals on top, which is slightly too sweet for some tastes.
The Jasmine Americano (RM 10, SGD 2.90) is more delightful, offering a subtle jasmine floral scent and taste contrasting with the coffee.
Whether you’re looking for a quiet place to unwind or a delightful spot to indulge in some culinary delights, The Butter in Malacca offers a charming experience that beautifully marries the old with the new.
